Projects: Hands for Jason

We were approached by Bill Buettner from Pioneer Plumbing and Shannon Melvin of Wood Wright Construction in Neillsville, WI about a special project they were putting together in their town. There was a family who was in need of some home renovations and they contacted Bill for help. Upon reaching out to us we set into motion a plan to involve Neillsville area businesses to donate their time to help make this renovation a reality. The family included a young man named Jason Gasiorowski. Jason was born with an incredibly rare genetic degenerative bone disease that through the years has taken its toll and left Jason unable to do any of the simple daily tasks we take for granted. The disease in question sets its sights on the joints of the bones, breaking them down until there is nothing left and the body is nothing but loose bones inside the muscles. It takes the structure of the body and breaks it apart rendering it useless. Jason lives with his mother and father who help him with his daily needs, which are many. Recently, Jason’s mother has discovered the same symptoms beginning to show themselves and doctors say she has the same disease and it is progressing rapidly. She is expected to have only a few months left at her current state of mobility.

The idea for this project is simply to make the quality of life the best it can be. The project involves a large scale renovation including the bathroom, kitchen, and replacement of many doors and windows to make it more accessible for Jason in his wheelchair. Although the labor is all donated by us and the various Neillsville businesses involved, it still costs quite a lot to finish a project of this size. The family did have money set aside for this specific project, but we are running out of resources to get everything done that we want to. This foundation has always relied on your donations and this project is in need of your help. The Hands Foundation has dedicated itself to helping those in need for the last seven years and prides itself in using 100% of the donations toward the project at hand; using nothing for administrative costs or labor. In the last year we have dedicated ourselves to finding those in need in the local areas of central Wisconsin. This project came along and showed us another area we can put our efforts toward and inspired us to seek out more projects involving handicapped accessibility. We are always looking for ways to expand and more areas to cover and with your help we can do just that. Please take the time to view the gallery of the project to see the work we are doing. We will update it with new photos as we continue.

Donations to the “Hands for Jason” project can be made at all local M&I Banks. Please make your checks payable to “Hands for Jason”. Thank you
